November 9, 1970 7:30 P.M. Eden Prairie Village Hall
Present: Marvin Erickson, Chairman, William Garens, Terry Fields,
Dean Holasek, Dennis Kalmon, Richard Lindquist, Ron Allar,
Frances Blacklock, Marty Jessen, Park and Recreation Director.
Visitors: Pat Breitenstein, Sandy Beauchane
The meeting was called to order by the chairman.
M/Holasek, S/Garens that the minutes of the October 12 meeting be
approved a scorrected. Carried.
IIA Election Marvin Erickson nominated jilliam Garens vice-chairman for the -
V-Chrman remainder of this term. Nomination was seconded by Dennis Kalmon.
M/Blacklock that 'the nominations be closed. Erickson declared
Garens vice-chairman by unanimous h :tx vote.
IIB MRPA Connnis- Jessen reported that the Minn. Parks and Recreation Assn. has just
sioners adopted a format allowing for a section of Park and Recreation
Section Commissioners and Board members. The purpose of the section will 1
be to promote the field of parks and recreation and to take stands a
on issues. He was not sure about membership fees at this time.

IIIA Jaycee Holasek reported that 20 men helped plant 54 trees along the road
Round Lake to the Teen Center and six in the middle of the parking lot, plus

Project one maple at the Fire Hall. These are ash trees one 'to more trees
in diameter, some as tall as 20 feet. They have eleven m
for the beach area which couldn't be planted because the ground has
been too wet to get equipment into the area.
III B Men's Ath- Six teams are registered for Basketball at $90 each: MTS, Rosemount,
letic Leagues Eklund and Swedlund, Methodist Church, Teachers and Brauer and Assoc.
They play Monday nights with two officials and a scorekeeper.
There will be four volleyball teams registered at $20 each; for
their games it will take one official and a scorekeeper.
I.IIC Final Rd. Jessen distributed copies of the Budget to commission members. (Copy
Lk. Pk. '70-71 on file with minutes.) He said it seemed more feasible to upgrade
Devlmt. Budd*. the existin!-� well, since 35 to 40 gal. per minute will be sufficient
to maintain the lake level and water the ballfields, before drilling
a new 6-in. well. A tank truck will be used for flooding the skating
rink. A new well could cost $5,500, with tank. The improvements
listed on the budget total $6,315. The remaining $3,700 will be
used to do some lifchting, taking dawn overhead wiring:, putting
in
underground wiring and puttinfc in more lights.

c EPAA use of The EPAA has asked to use the schools on Saturday for basketball.
�. Schools for This has been done before with no cost and no custodian, but the
BB schools want a custodian on duty this year. Jessen suggested that
part of the $600 that the school offered when Jessen was hired.,
for custodial overtime for recreation programming, be used to
assist the EPAA. Overtime needs to be paid only when a custodian
is not on regular duty, such as beyond regular hours at Teen Dances.
M/Holasek, S/Garens -that money made available to the Park and Rec-
reation commission for custodial services be made available to the
E.P.A.A. for an estimated 60 hours -- fifteen Saturday's at two
locations (Prairie View and the High School.) Carried.
Chaperoning Jessen informed the commission so they could answer any questions
Policy they might receive regard chaperoning teen events. The village
hires Don Nolander for supervision and a policXeman stops in to
check, but the teens mostly chaperone themselves and are doing a
good job at it. �

Teen Center Ron Allar said he turned over $250 in profits from recent events
to the Village Council at the last meeting.
