Eden Prairie Village Hall Present: Dan Boos, Chairman, Marvin Erickson, William Garens, Dennis Kalnion, Robert Lieb, Frances Blacklock. Marty Jessen, Parks and. Recreation Director Nyla Jensen, DIV Observer P4/Garens,S/Lieb that the April 13 minutes be app. as presented. Carried. Minutes Nyla Jensen said the League of Women Voters had discussed E.P. parks League of•--_��and recreation at its meeting two months ago. They arrived at no Women Voters consentsus, but discussed several items they wished Mrs. Jensen to pass Communication along the commission. The League would be glad to work on studies connected with any of these ideas. Biking and horse trails Swimming facilities for the future Tennis courts Wayside park areas Various commission members spoke of the awareness of these needs and offered some suggestions for solution and plans for the future, such as trail system on Purgatory-Minnesota River, swimming pools The League would like to sponsor a meeting for the whole community, to meet Marty Jessen,xiad to evaluate the summer recreation program and to discuss the community-school program. Lieb said the Mayor has proposed a Community Day inh the fall, and that this might possibly fit into plans for that day. Playing Girls Softball allsgamespatted that 57 Prairie View th and 6th graders Elentary. Started v registered. May 9ratherthan June. Merh Softball Now have 2 teams in the Men's Open League and 6 in the Industrial. Paying $100 per team, playing Wed. nites at Round Lake. Mary Erickson and Bob Lieb will serve on the Protest Committee with Marty. Teen Council Ron Allar has been re-elected President, but not present for report. Round Lake Purchase of a 150-foot dock and railing has been approved by the Council, Improvements to be installed for the price; adjustable for lake level. Remodeling of the warming house for concession stand, storage and guard house has been started. Arrangements have been made to stock concession stand; receipts to go into general village fund -- not a substantial fund raiser at this point. Heavy earth work on the ball fields has been completed, have quotes on backstops, have yet to buy maintenance equipment for fields. Grading came to $1700 less than expected. Teams will have to play on dirt surface as it's too late for seeding and sod is too expensive. Teams have been informed of this. The Jaycees are considering helping with volleyball, badminton etc. lighting and installation. Anderson Lake Jessen reported that Henn. County has pulled out of the 4-way agreement Park Report on equal contributions for acquisition, but Bloomington and Eden Prairie are proceding to acquire their shares. The north shore of Anderson is considered regional in concept. Jessen said some possibilities for implementing acquisition will be forthcoming. Summer Recreation The only chan-cre from the preliminary plan will be a $2 rental fee for all boats. Other equipment rental gill be $1 pew', to be returned when the equipment is returned. May 11, 1970 Page 2 TCMORROPI TO BE MAILED TO ALL RESIDENTS ALONG WITH APPLICATION for beach season tickets and sewer and water information. Those living in Edina and Bloomington can pick up brochures at school. Registration will be June 3, 4, 5 and 6, (5 to 9 on the 3rd) . Schooner Day The annual E.P. celebration sponsored by the Lions Club will be June 7 held at Round Lake Park. There will be a Teen Center dance the night before. Teens will run pontoon boat rides from the beach dock during the day and there will be other activities during the day. The Park Commission had no suggestion of anything they wished to do for Schooner Day. Tours Bob Lieb reminded the commission of the Historical Society's tour of E.P. next Sunday, and Frances Blacklock told them of the LWV park tour to be led by Marty Jessen next Friday.
