March 9, 1970 7:30 p.m. Eden Prairie Village Hall
Present: Daniel Boos, chairman, Marvin Erickson, William Garens,

Preliminary remarks: Dan Boose said that he, Robert Lieb and George Hite
had come from a dinner meetinf� at Bursch's in Hopkins, attended by the
Village Council, the School Board and Chat. of the various village
commissions. Such meetings are hoped to b . gnthly irk°rd.er to improve
communications between all governinf*, units of the vi11Ao.
Minutes M/Erickson, S/Garens that the minutes of February 9 be approved. Carried.
Election Chairman - Garens nominated Dan Boos for a one-year term during the
of officers calendar year of 1970. M/Lieb that the nominations be closed,
S/Blacklock. Carried unanimously.
Chairman pro tem - Lieb nominated Marvin Erickson. M/Holt that the nomina-
tions be closed, S/Garens. Carried unaimously.
Secretary - Holasek nominated Frances Blacklock, S/Garens. Carried.
Meeting; It was agreed unaimously that meetings would continue to be on the
dates and second Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. It was agreed that it was not
time necessary for the secretary at the village hall to remind members of the
meetings.
SRA - Su- Marty Jessen reported that E.P. will receive $450 this year - $360 for
burban Rec- the general program, and the rest for 5 puppet shows. He said he would
reation have more information regarding a day camp pro-ram and proposals from the
Assn. Minn. State Arts Council at the April meeting.
1970 LAYJCON 'George Hite reported that a grant of $91,330 came through the end of Feb.
?rant to be used for 14.5 acres on Staring Lake and 39.42 acres on Anderson Lake.
Matching- this, will be $46,000 from the State Natural Resources Commission.
Hite said he is going to request that the money for the Carlson parcel on
the west side of Anderson Lake be reassigned to the east side of the lake
where the village is purchasing a block of land for park. Providing the
Bofencamp parcel on Staring becomes village property through a gift, the
village expects soon to own the land from the creek to Mitchell Road. •
The Preserve Hite explained the neneral plan for the Carter ertz-Minner-,aseo development
on Anderson Lake which was announced in the papers on March 10. The shore
line and other natural areas are expected to be preserved in their natural
state, and they have expressed a willingness to cooperate with park plans.
They own over 1000 acres from County 18 to the high line, and from the
Olympic Golf Course to 494.
Vocational Hite said there is interest in the S.E. corner of Mitchell and Scenic
H.S. site Heights Road and the Cieor;*e Holasek property on 169.

maps are expected for park land acquisition at Bryant and Birch Island lakes.

E.P. Cooler Mgd:a-h Jessen reported that plans had been made with Edina to rent
Braemar Arena Saturday, April 11, for $30. It was agreed that the
hours be from 7 to 11 p.m., with no admission charge (cost included in
budget). Boos will help coordinate and Jessen will send memo on plans
to members.
Teen Center The dance at the Center March 7 was a big success, huge crowd and
excellent band. The ceiling tile is in and the place has been cleaned up.
A need for security lights was cited. Jessen is meetinfx with the Teen
Council next week. Election will be held soon.
Beach Improve Jessen said there was a need to install prefab docks at est. cost of
ments $1500 to 2,000. A lifeguard stand on the sand bar will be a control point.
There will be no further work in water except to wash out silt. The warming
house will be moved to beach for concession stand.
Industrial All previous softball teams have received a notice that E.P. has its own
Rec. program dacilities and a recreation director. Four to six slo pitch, self-supported
teams can be accommodated at Round Lake, with fee of $75 per team. Possibly
three games can be played in the early evening on unlighted fields.
Summer Rec Jessen and Hite have met with Supt. Wood and the school principals to dis-
cuss summer programs. The school program will affect the village plans.
We will know more after the next school board meeting on funding; and programs.
Plans for the Hopkins Sch. Dist. will also affect plans for Birch Island
Park where kids attend Hopkins school. The possibility of scratching the
morning; playground sessions which conflict with summer school was suggested.
More special skill groups are being considered such as: boating, horse back
ridin?, golf, archery, tennis, gun safety, dog training and pet care,
gymnastics, theater, swimming, fishin7 and fly casting and tieing, day damp etc.
Tentatively playground programs for Centeral, Prairie View and Kings Forest
are being considered, with a trip one day per week, one day a week with a
specialist such as n&uralist, track etc. included. User fees on playground
cover only 25% of cost, but it is a community service. Expect beach fees
to cover 75% of. cost. Firmer recommendations will be made at the April
meeting to coordinate with school program.
Indian Trail The secretary had copies of a map of Old Indian Trails in Eden Prairie
map copied from an 1860 map belonging to the Long Lake Historical Society by
Mrs. Calvin Anderson of the E.P. Hisinrical Society. Mr. Hite was given one
copy and another is on file with the minutes. Interestingly, the present
main roads in Eden Prairie follow very closely ±3= several of the Indian
trails.
S.R.A. Board E.P. has been invited to appoint a member to serve on this board which
meets four times a year. Appointment will be made in April.
Purgatory Hite said the Board of Managers has been orr;anized and is meeting the first

.A hope was expressed that communication from the Park and Recreation

planning;.
