Sustainability Commission - 08/04/2020APPROVED MINUTES EDEN PRAIRIE SUSTAINABILITY COMMISSION MEETING TUESDAY, AUGUST 4, 2020 7:00 P.M. Ground Storage Reservoir Site COMMISSION MEMBERS: Cindy Hoffman (Chair), Aaron Poock (Vice Chair), Jeanne DeSanctis, Debjyoti Dwivedy Daniel Katzenberger, JoAnn McGuire, Bruce Schaepe, Priya Senthilkumar CITY STAFF: Jennifer Hassebroek, Sustainability Coordinator, Kristin Harley, Recording Secretary I. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Chair Hoffman called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. Absent were Commissioners DeSanctis and Senthilkumar. Rick Wahlen, Eden Prairie Utility Operations Manager, joined the meeting. II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Quorum not present at start of meeting, no motion made. III. TOUR OF GROUND STORAGE RESERVOIR SITE Rick Wahlen, Utility Operations Manager, provided the Commission with background information and a tour of the site. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM JULY 14 MEETING MOTION: Poock moved, seconded by Katzenberger to approve the minutes of July 14, 2020 Sustainability Commission. Motion carried 6-0. V. REPORTS A. REPORTS FROM STAFF 1. UPDATE ON HOME ENERGY SQUAD INTERCITY CHALLENGE Hassebroek updated the Commission on the status of the program and the smart thermostat rebate the city was planning for winning residents. UPDATE ON SUSTAINABLE EDEN PRAIRIE AWARDS Hassebroek let the Commission know nominations for the annual award program were now open and to encourage residents and businesses to apply. 3. UPDATE ON CITYWIDE OPEN HOUSE Hasssebroek informed the Commission that 2020 Citywide Open House has been cancelled. B. REPORTS FROM CHAIR None. C. REPORTS FROM COMMISSION 1. WATER UPDATE Poock reminded Commissioners to participate in the Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation Pledge before the end of the month. 2. WASTE UPDATE None. 3. LANDSCAPE/POLLINATOR UPDATE Hassebroek reminded the commission of the upcoming landscape webinar series hosted by the City and Wild Ones. 4. ENERGY UPDATE Katzenberger announced the upcoming Climate Reality Leadership training. There would be another training opening up for registrations in August, and information was available at Climatereality.org. Registration and the training were free of charge. D. REPORTS FROM STUDENTS V. OTHER BUSINESS Hoffman noted the Student Commissioners that would be starting in September and encouraged Commissioners to help the students feel comfortable participating with the group. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Katzenberger moved, seconded by Dwivedy to adjourn the meeting. MOTION CARRIED 6-0. The meeting was adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
