HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA
RESOULUTION NO. R80-121
WHEREAS, according to highly-qualified scientist in cancer research,
we are walking around with a little time bomb in us from the environmental
carcinogens that we have in our systems. This bomb may well explode on
us ten, fifteen or twenty years from now in tremendous numbers: and
WHEREAS, demongraphic and health trends suggest that deaths from
cancer may number about eight million annually by the year 2000, accord-
ing to the World Health Organization report: and
WHEREAS, The United Cancer Institute has proposed a Cancer Control
Program to set up mini-cancer detection facilities throughout the nation to
give to those who can't afford it a free cancer check-up during September
7-11, 1980.
WHEREAS, IT IS THE BELIEF OF THE MEDICAL PROFESSION THAT
Cancer is curable if detected and treated in its early stages and that
this practice would result in the savings of millions of lives each year.
NOW, THEREFORE, I WOLFGANG H. PENZEL of the City of Eden Prairie
hereby declare September 8, 1980 as:
NATIONAL CANCER DAY
in the City of Eden Prairie and urge all residents to seek early check-ups
in their communities.
