A RESOLUTION RELATING TO AND IN OPPOSTION TO THE LOCATION
OF A CHEMICAL WASTE LANDFILL DEMONSTRATION FACILITY IN THE
CHANHASSEN/EDEN PRAIRIE AREA.
WHEREAS, there has been created a Chemical Waste Landfill Ad Hoc Advisory
Committee by the Metropolitan Waste Control. Commission; and
WHEREAS, according to a notice dated November 7, 1977 said Committee has
reduced the site search areas, to two, one being a 12,500 acre site located in-
the Chanhassen/Eden Prairie area; and
WHEREAS, there has been neither official or unofficial communication
between the Advisory Committee and City officials regarding the proposed
facility or the selection process; and
• WHEREAS, the City of Eden Prairie does not agree with the conclusion that
the Eden Prairie/Chanhassen area meets the. criteria or that those are the only
criteria to be used in site selection; and
WHEREAS, the- preliminary investigation of the area involved insofar as it
is located within the City of Eden Prairie includes: .
Lands located in the Minnesota River and Riley Purgatory Creek Watershed
Districts;
Is located in an area which is a part of the Minnesota Valley National
Wildlife Preserve;
Contains poor soils;
Is adjacent to and near a heavily_ traveled accident prone State
Highway;
Is in an area which will be developed as single family residences; and
Does not contain or have available municipal sanitary sewer and water
service;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Eden Prairie
that it is opposed to the location of a chemical waste landfill demonstration
facility within the Chanhassen/Eden Prairie.area.

November, 1977. _

n view of the above resolution, we the undersigned declare that we are opposed to
. the selection of the Chanhassen-Eden Prairie-Bloomington Site.
We recommend that the site selection process begin anew beginning with a thorough
• definition of all problems either currently existing or anticipated in the future.
We urge further the consideration of all possible alternatives and that all local
" governmental units and citizens affected be completely informed and involved during
the process.
