REQUESTS - EDEN PRAIRIE HISTORICAL SOCIETY Case noted she had brought an afghan which will be for sale by the Historical Society depicting historical sites throughout Eden Prairie. The price will be$30.00 for commission members and$40.00 to the general public. The afghans will be sold during Sunbonnet Days and should provide a good source of revenue for the Historical Society. V. REPORTS OF COMMISSION AND STAFF A. Glen Lake Children=s Camp Recordation - John Gertz This item was deferred until Gertz was present. It was noted that the camp would remain in place until the children were gone for the summer. Case requested HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES June 16, 1997 Page 2 Anderson to send a memo to Gertz directing that he proceed with conversations with Chris Enger and report to Chair Hession before June 30th. B. Historic Marker Placement Case commented she would like to see the historic markers installed which are to be placed in front of historic sites throughout Eden Prairie. Colliton and Mason volunteered to work with Jerry Prodoehl to put them up. It was noted that Gertz had the signs which are to be installed. Case commented perhaps Mark Weber of the Eden Prairie News could be persuaded to do a story on the placement of these markers. VI. OLD BUSINESS A. Review of Revised Planting Plan for the Cummins-Grill Property Case stated that the planting plan had to be submitted earlier than it was this year in order for the plantings to be obtained by the nursery. The nursery would do the best they could do to obtain the plantings desired. The dirt has not been placed on the site at present. The peony garden is very damaged and they have to be dug out and replenish the soil and then replant the plants, as they are very choked by weeds. Case stated she would keep HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES June 16, 1997 Page 3 working on this project with Gertz. VII. NEW BUSINESS A. Review of Request to the City Council to Establish a Working Group for the Purpose of Planning a Community Space at the Eden Prairie Center Wilson commented he had heard from people he knows at the Eden Prairie Center that they will have the funding in place for the new additions next year. They don=t have the financing in place now. B. Grace Church Case stated that Grace Church of Edina has been looking at purchasing some land, approximately 60 acres, adjacent to the Raguet House in Eden Prairie, but nothing has come before the City yet. The Raguet house is back behind where the church would be located. Case wanted to inform the Church of the history of the homestead and maybe they would be interested in preserving the house and using it as a facility for the church. The house has never been altered or added to in any way,but it does need to have some work done on it. If the church purchased the property they would be able to demolish any of the buildings on the land, but Case wanted to be sure they knew the history of the house before they made any decisions regarding its future. Hensrud commented that there were many things they could do with 60 acres and he felt they intended to do something in the way of a campus-type development. He will be involved in aiding the church in finding a way to come into Eden Prairie with a good attitude. Discussion ensued regarding forming a subcommittee to meet with the Grace Church building committee to discuss the history of the property. MOTION: Wilson moved, seconded by Hensrud, that a subcommittee be formed to meet with the Grace Church building committee to discuss the history of the property. The subcommittee will include Hensrud, Colliton, Case and Mason. Motion carried 5-0. Case commented perhaps if too many of them went it might be overwhelming, and it might be better if only a couple of them met with the building committee. Hensrud commented he might be unable to attend depending on when the meeting was scheduled. C. Location for Next Regular Meetin! Case stated that the Commission had discussed holding a couple of meetings a year HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES June 16, 1997 Page 4 at the Cummins-Grill house, and suggested that perhaps the July meeting should be held there. The other commissioners concurred. The next meeting was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on July 21, 1997 at the Cummins-Grill House. VIII. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Mason moved, seconded by Wilson,to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 5- 0. The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
