F. PETITIONS, REQUESTS AND COMMUNICATION
A. EP Welcome Signs added by Rorem
Rorem said she received a proposal from Tom Bierman from the Parks and
Recreation Committee about EP welcome signs. He would like to start working
with the Arts & Culture Committee to work on the proposal. The proposal is to
discuss Eden Prairie signs at 2 locations on I-494 and 169. Rorem said there are
other cities that have logos under the City sign (example: Victoria and Mora).
Obiazor said Eden Prairie has a sign ordinance and even getting the vertical signs
was a big deal. Obiazor said the idea is one idea from one individual. Obiazor said
the entire Parks & Recreation Committee may not be aware of discussion and
planning. The entire Parks & Recreation Committee may not be aware of the
discussion of Eden Prairie signs. Petry-Lee said it is a great idea to have a
welcome sign to gain approval could be difficult. If the sign is on private property
there could be private maintenence and it may not be an actual welcome sign.
King suggested there could be branding in the City through a community
participation logo. The logo could be on and/or near businesses that have been
long standing in Eden Prairie.
Obiazor said the City can't modify the City populations' signs. Petry-Lee said it is
a great idea to have welcome signs, but gaining approval could be difficult.
Rorem said it is unfortunate that people can drive through Eden Prairie and not
even know it. Also, in a budget cutting year no one is going to want to spend
money on signs. Obiazor said the Eden Prairie signs are on the radar, but approval
of the signs would have to pass and then the Commission would be happy to help.

Danhauser said the Commission will be voting on the entries for Arts in the Park.

be limited to the art presented and not personal knowledge.
I. REPORTS OF STAFF AND COMMISSIONERS
A. Jewelry Fundraising Event at the Art Center- Thursday, March 24 from 6:30-9 pm
Rorem said tickets will be $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Participants will
leave with a couple of pieces of jewelry. The event will be held with help from
the Friends of the Art Center. There will be someone helping with crimping. A
few individuals volunteering their time will be displaying their jewelry and/or art,
as compensation for helping. Ramos said she could help at the event. Rorem said
the donation is tax deductable, since it is a fundraiser. King suggested having a
few instructional books on bead making for people to buy. Petry-Lee said non-
profits can purchase books at Barnes and Noble at a discount.
B. Public Art Consultant Update
Danhauser said the grant wasn't received. There needs to be a clearer direction of
what is trying to be done. There are two organizations that could be worked with:
Forecast and Creative Community Builders. Forecast has experience with public
art and Creative Community Builders can help draft ordinances. Danhauser said

one of the things to look at is if Eden Prairie would be receptive to a 1% for art
ordinance. Creative Community Builders could help with this idea. Creative
Community Builders thought rail stations should be a high priority. Danhauser
said the Arts & Culture Commission could help with the areas around the rail
stations from signs, benches around the train stop, but not the actual station.
C. Religious Holidays
Ramos said the days for Passover and Yom Kipper do not need a week each for
their Holiday time. In addition, all of the Holidays should be checked.
