EDEN PRAIRIE ARTS & CULTURE COMMISSION

I. ROLL CALL
Rorem called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. Bivins was absent.
A. Ana Armstrong—Resignation from Commission
Danhauser said the open position will be kept open until in January.
II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
MOTION: Ramos moved to approve the Agenda, seconded by King. Motion carried 4-
0.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — September 13, 2010 & October 11, 2010
MOTION: Petry-Lee moved to approve the September 13, 2010 minutes as amended,
seconded by Ramos. Motion carried 4-0.
The approval of the October 11, 2010 has been postponed until the January 2011
meeting.
IV. EDEN PRAIRIE PLAYERS AND COMMUNITY BAND
A. Update on Community Band Guidelines
Danhauser said the dismissal and complaint process was updated for the
Community Band. The process to join the band is more formal. Currently, there is
no clarification on proper email procedures. The complaint process has been
clarified with how to handle internal complaints in the band.
V. ART CENTER
A. Hanging System Update

Danhauser said the quote for all of the hanging equipment at the Art Center was
$2800. The hanging system should be up by January. There will be two 18 inch
acrylic boxes with removable shelves for three dimensional art. The boxes will be
hung on the wall and have removable shelves.

VII. OLD BUSINESS
A. Public Art Update
Public Art Definition
Public art is publicly accessible original art that enriches the city and
evokes meaning. It may include permanent visual art, installations, and
other temporary works. Public art must possess aesthetic qualities and may
be functional in nature; it may be integrated into the site or be a stand
alone.
MOTION: Rorem moved to accept the Public Art Definition as corrected
in the minutes, seconded by Petry-Lee. Motion carried 4-0.
Public Art Criteria
1. Must be original
2. Must possess aesthetic qualities
3. Artwork must enrich the city and evoke meaning
4. Artwork must consider the site, context and audience
5. Relative difficulty and cost of maintenance must be considered.
6. Higher priority will be given to art work that fits within an existing
project plan and budget of the City.
7. No nudity, no religious content, no sexual content
8. All artists are encouraged to submit art with preference given to Eden
Prairie artists.
MOTION: Petry-Lee moved to accept the Public Art Criteria as
corrected, seconded by Rorem. Motion carried 4-0.
B. Review 2010 Work Plan
Danhauser said the entire 2010 work plan has been completed with the exception
of number three. The third work plan item is:
• Create a commercially viable display space at the Art Center.
This work plan item is currently in process with the hanging system for the Art
Center having been order. The hanging system should be installed by January
2011.

VIII. NEW BUSINESS
A. 2011 Photography Contest
Danhauser said the photographs could be displayed at City Hall, the Art Center,
and the Community Center. The voting for the winner would be online on
Facebook. The contest will be for original artwork of Eden Prairie. The contest
will launch in January 2011. The photographs need to be taken in the last two
years. The displays will be five by seven prints of the photographs. King
suggested there be an in person place to vote, for those not online. The voters
could still give their email addresses and this would still enable the City to collect
ways for City to collect electronic methods of contacting people.
B. 2011 Work Plan— Looking Forward
1. Light rail Transit stations art and design ideas.
2. Art Center exterior and landscaping art and design ideas.
3. Parks, trails, and open spaces art and design ideas.
4. Indoor gathering spaces art and design ideas
5. Identify funding mechanisms for all public art and design
6. Redesign of International Festival into a community Festival
7. Develop art competitions(s).
8. Examine the list of all community events to check their relevance
9. Be a part of the Art Center open house.
10. Discuss vending opportunities at the Art Center.
IX. REPORTS OF STAFF AND COMMISSIONERS
None.
X. NEXT MEETING
MOTION: Ramos moved to not have a December 2010 meeting, seconded by King.
Motion carried 4-0.
Next Meeting —January 2011, City Center at 7 p.m.
XI. ADJOURNMERNT
MOTION: King moved, seconded by Petry-Lee to adjourn the meeting. Rorem
adjourned the meeting at 8:16 p.m.
