Obiazor said the flyer turned out really nice. It will be helpful to track who uses
the flyer as a coupon. Ramos said it would be helpful if there were a family rate.
Danhauser said she could send out an e-blast with a coupon or discount fee for
families. Obiazor said it is very helpful to find the right price point for events. The
pizza and bingo night was priced just right. 50 people showed up and only 25
were expected.
V. ART CENTER
A. 2009 Year End Budget
Obiazor said the 2009 proposed budget was based on information about other art
facilities budgets, the outdoor center's budget and its budget when started.
Danhauser said the revenue for the 2009 budget was based on the Art Center
opening in January 2009, but the Art Center didn't open until April 2009. The
membership was about$1,000 lower than expected.
Obiazor said the membership fees of$100 were started based on other area art
centers. The members get a discount and can support the arts in their community.
Class participants are now being targeted for memberships. The Art Center
programming is where the majority of the money is coming in.
Danhauser said the facility rental line is going to change to birthday parties. There
are five birthday parties in January. Obiazor said birthday parties help bring
people, who may not have been participants in the past, into the Art Center.
Danhauser said a little more was spent initially because there wasn't a separate
start up budget. Mosow said thank you to everyone who helped the start up of the
Art Center. Armstrong asked if grants can be applied for the second year the Art
Center is open. Danhauser said some of the grants can't even be applied for until
the facility is established and stable. There are still fundraising needs because
there are still items wanted and needed.
Ramos said there are still many people who don't know the Art Center is in the
community. Danhauser said a sign can't be put on Valley View Road because it's
a county road. Obiazor said little signs may be able to be placed by Home Depot
and PDQ for directions. Businesses on the corner of Equitable Drive could also be
talked to about putting up a sign on the business' property.
Ramos said with the Eden Prairie High School four hour period, it is very hard to
fit in art classes. There could be classes at the Art Center. Transportation could
even be provided. The classes would need to be quality services and could be
similar to high school classes. Danhauser said the classes could be called 5tn
period.

None.
VII. OLD BUSINESS
A. Review Proposed 2010 Commission Work Plan
MOTION: Ramos moved to approve, the Arts and Culture Commission 2010
work plan, seconded by Mosow. Motion carried 6-0.
B. Develop Susmested Criteria for Public Art
Danhauser said she met with Janet Jeremiah and January 2010 is too soon to have
her come to the Commission meeting. It would be helpful for the Commission to
discuss what the Eden Prairie art policy would look like before inviting Janet
Jeremiah to a meeting. The policy could start with having a prioritized wish list
and what art would be nice to have around the City. The Commission could
establish a list of suggestions for art at the future light rail stations. There will be
five light rail stations in Eden Prairie. The possibility of public art replacing some
of the landscaping around the city could be suggested. There could be a motion
for public art replacing a percentage of landscaping. There is an opportunity for
the Commission to be a sounding board for art being placed around the
community. The Commission could submit an official statement to the City
Council stating the desire to help with the quality and type of art being placed in
the City. St. Louis Park, Minneapolis, and Bloomington may be resources with
previously established criteria. Obiazor said the Commission should be able to do
research about the Commissions role in art around the community. Danhauser
said the wish list could be looked at in February and then the wish list could be
taken to the City Council. Danhauser said the light rail stations funding would
come from the City. The Commission's role would be for esthetic direction for
the rail stations. Kathawalla said advertising rights could be sold for each rail
station and it could be a money maker. Ramos said for the same price something
beautiful could be created or something ordinary could be created. Obiazor said
funding or grants could be applied for to help with the rail stations.
C. Artist Network Meeting Rescheduled for Tuesday,January 12 at 7 pm—Art
Center
Danhauser said there will be the same agenda items as previously decided. The
meeting may be moved into one of the classrooms, due to classes in the Art
Center. There should be at least eight or nine people at the Artist Network
Meeting.
D. Schedule 2010 Ouarterly Meeting Dates for Artist Network
The 2010 Artist Network meeting dates will be April 13 at 7:00 p.m., September
14, and December 7.

VIII. NEW BUSINESS
A. 2010 Commission Appointments
Obiazor said Olson and Mosow's terms expire in 2010. If they would like to
reapply and there are other applicants, there would need to be a unanimous vote
from City Council for Olson and Mosow to be on the Commission. Olson said she
will not be applying for a position on the Commission. Mosow said he is unsure
about reapplying for the Commission.
IX. REPORTS OF STAFF AND COMMISSIONERS
A. Egyptian Water-Lily Fountain Update
Danhauser said the Egyptian Water-Lily Fountain did not get funded through
MRAC. Danhauser said she will be on the MRAC review board and will be able
to learn a lot about how the application review process works. The MP3 recording
of the grant application review can be listened to and Danhauser said she will
listen to it next week. Danhauser said she isn't sure why it wasn't approved.
Maybe the written application didn't come across as it should have, maybe it
didn't score as high as other applications, or maybe they ran out of money before
they could fund the Egyptian Water-Lily project. Petry-Lee suggested talking
with Bachman's for funding.
B. Art on City Walls Update
Danhauser said the Eden Prairie Art Center and Eden Prairie staff's art is
displayed this month. This includes the art of Ramos and Rorem.
Petry-Lee suggested a marketing idea for the Art Center to help increase
visibility. There could be a bump into art bumper sticker. They could be printed
each year with a contest winner's art. When people take a class or have a birthday
party, participants would receive a bumper sticker. The winner, who has their art
placed on the bumper sticker, could receive a free membership or something else.
Rorem said it is a great idea, but suggested having the art be placed on a window
cling for cars instead of a bumper sticker. Petry-Lee said even if the idea breaks
even, it is still a good idea. Ramos said there could be t-shirts and other items
marketing the Art Center. Petry-Lee said these items could be part of a birthday
bag to be given out at birthday parties. Ramos said the marketing ideas could be
very inexpensive at Vista Print. Mosow suggested using empty business windows
for advertising the Art Center. Ramos said in New York they are doing actual art
shows in the empty retail space. There is no charge for this, since it was serving
the interest of both the store and the community. Petry-Lee suggested advertising
on grocery store carts. Ramos suggested talking with Kowalski's and the
possibility of participating in the receipt for schools and collect receipts for the
Art Center.
Rorem said the Friends of Eden Prairie will have an event in April at the Pairings
restaurant. The event will be pairings beyond cheese. Tickets will be sold for
