Metal Sculpture Studio Tour—Monday, November 2 Rorem said there is a possibility of metal sculpture classes in the garage until the enough funding for a glass studio is received. There could be steel fabrication as part of metal sculpture classes. Venting, tables, tools, goggles, and gloves would be the needed supplies. Most of the items could be on wheels for ease of moving. It would cost around $5000 - $6000 to purchase the supplies to start a metal sculpture studio. The concern with this type of art is the insurance requirements. The participants would need to be at least 15 years old or older and have up to eight students per class. The cost for a glass blowing studio would need around $22,000 - $23,000 for the start up costs. Danhauser said pottery was $8000 - $9000 to set up and the cost was for a basic set up, which doesn't have everything. Ramos asked if there are other types of art with less set up costs and more interest from the public for the classes. Obiazor said the Senior Center has a wood shop and only five to six senior use it. The garage area should be thought about for what is the best use of space for the garage. Once the Art Center has been open for a year, the Art Center can be looked at for how it is being used and if the rooms are being used for the best use of the space. Danhauser said the garage is also being used for storage. Danhauser said she would like to have fused glass and pottery added to and improved upon before adding another art form. Obiazor said a community survey could be done to determine what the community interest, is in additional types of art. Danhauser said the director of Edina said they couldn't provide metal sculpture, due to OSHA (Occupational Safety And Health Administration) and liability reasons. B. Meet and Greet with Representatives from Bloominiton and Edina Danhauser said she met with a representative from Bloomington. Jim Urie, Andrea Specht, Mary, Mosow, Obiazor, Olson, and Lotthammer came to the Eden Prairie Art Center for a meet and greet. Jim Urie and Danhauser talked about what they are doing and what Eden Prairie is doing. Obiazor said the City of Bloomington was interested in how broad the art is in Eden Prairie. Danhauser said there could be future collaborations with Bloomington including workshop artists. Bloomington has an exhibition space and there could be a joint member show. Danhauser said she attends meetings for the Metropolitan Art Council and the next topic is about pricing classes. The group meets every other month. Danhauser said Diana Hedges, from Edina, came to the Eden Prairie Art Center. Diana was interested in how the Eden Prairie Art Center is run. Danhauser said real estate and garage sale signs are allowed two signs per location. Kathawalla left the meeting at 7:50 p.m. Danhauser said the brochure should be out earlier next year.
