RESOLUTION CALLING FOR MINNESOTA DEPART14ENT OF HIGHWAYS IN
CO-OPERATION WITH UNITED STATES BUREAU OF PUBLIC ROADS TO
RESTUDY LAYOUTS OF TRUNK HIGHWAY 169 AND INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 494

3+1HEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Highways is preparing plans for
improvement of T.H. 169 across the Village of Eden" Prairie as an express-
way with control of access;
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Highways has nearly completed
construction of the main roadways of Interstate Highway 494 with control of
access;
WHEREAS, the Village of Eden Prairie is growing rapidly and many
• housing and industrial developments are already in progress or are being
planned that will increase greatly highway traffic volumes in the Village
of Eden Prairie;
WHEREAS, improvement of Interstate Highway 494 was planned when Eden
Prairie was a Township and primarily rural in character;
WHEREAS, the changes in the Village now taking place will provide
great benefits to the Village if maximum and effective use of Interstate
Highway 494 and reconstructed T.H. 169 are permitted;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the District Office of the Minne-
sota Department of Highways be requested to restudy the preliminary lay-
outs for upgrading T.H. 169 with the aim of providing a four-way inter-
change at the intersection of T.H. 169 and County Road 60;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the District Office of the Minnesota
Department of Highways be requested to restudy the former request of the
Village of Eden Prairie for an on-ramp for west-bound traffic at the inter-
section of Trunk Highway 5 and improved T.H. 169, and to restudy also the
Villagets former request for an off-ramp for east-bound traffic at this
location;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the District Office of the Minnesota
Department of Highways continue to study the proposed interchange at T.H. 169
and County Road 18 to provide the special off-ramp previously requested by
a
the Village of Eden Prairie and to continue to study methods to permit old
T.H. 169 to function as an arterial or through street across reconstructed
County Road 18;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the District Office of the Minnesota Depart-
ment of Highways restudy the layout of the intersection of Interstate High-
way 494 with County Road 60 to make possible on and off ramps at this loca-
tion, namely an entrance for north-bound traffic and an exit ramp for south-
-bound movements.
BRIT FURTHER RESOLVED that the District Office of the Minnesota Depart-
ment of Highways give consideration to construction between County Road 18
and T.H. 169 of an exit ramp from Interstate Highway 494 for north-bound
traffic and for a ramp between these two locations to permit east-bound
traffic to enter onto Interstate Highway 494;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the District Office Of the Minnesota Depart-
ment of Highways make known to key people in the headquarters office of the
Department the concern of the Village of Eden Prairie regarding adequate
access and use of T.H. 169 and Interstate Highway 494;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the District Office of the Minnesota Depart-
ment of Highways convey to engineers of United States Bureau of Public Roads
the request of the Village of Eden Prairie for the special studies and re-
appraisal work now being requested by the Village of Eden Prairie as related
to planned improvement of T.H. 169 and the final layout of the access and
exit ramps of Interstate Highway 494;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Village of Eden Prairie offer to the
Highway Department the assistance of Village employees in assembling any
0 special data or information needed by the Department as related to present
and anticipated future traffic movements;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Village Council make known to the State
and County Highway Departments the Councilts appreciation of the co-opevtion
the Village of Eden Prairie has been receiving regarding requests for special
studiesrelating to highway improvements.
