MINUTES
CITY OF EDEN PRAIRIE
EDEN PRAIRIE PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
June 14, 1971 7:30 P.M. Round Lake Park, Eden Prairie
Present: Marvin Erickson, chairman, Terry Fields, Dean Holasek,
Robert Lieb, Frances Blacklock, Marty Jessen, Director.
I. Minutes The meeting was called to order by the chairman. M/Lieb. S/Fields
that the minutes of May 10 be approved as corrected: Item E to
read that the actual irrigation cost was $850. Carried.
II. Rec. and Reports
A. Liason Jessen said there would be a sub-committee meeting on the park system:
Riley-Purgatory Watershed District.
Erickson aatended SRA meeting last Wednesday cancelled from May. He
suggested that slides be taken of Teen Center and activities, that they
help us get more aid from SRA. There are races coming up -- Jessen said
he would coordinate them with the Summer Rec. program. Erickson said
the Recreational Leaders Training week in Indiana was highly recommended. G
Blacklock told of the successful Creek Fair at Southdale and dedication
of Wood Lake Marsh Nature Center in Richfield. The possibility of the
Cot ission meeting at or touring Wood Lake was discussed. She reported
that the Metro Park B111 had not been passed by the State Legislature a `
but that there was a possibility it might be passed in the Extra Session.
C. Comm.- Jessen said he felt the May 20 public meeting brought out some unseful
School information and planted some new thoughts, a discussion of community-
Mtg. school coordination in site planning, safety officer and acquisiton
of land. The School Board is considering proposals of school use
and will let us know what changes they want.

D. Schooner Ape was good -- a minimum of 500 families attended Sat. and
Days Sunday; and about 200 came to the Sat. night dance. They had a good ;
music group :for the teen dance Fri. night but had to scramble to put
up the tent, floor and PA system between 6 and 9 p.m. All groups who
participated came out in the black -- Lions, Jaycees etc. They were '
disappointed in the rides. Will meet in July to begin plans for 172.
E. Summer Jessen distributed copies of the Registration Report (copy attached).
Rec. He said there had been a problem with Swimmers Itch which lasts about
a day. The swimming area of the lake was treated today with copper
sulphate. Registrations are continuing to be taken this week, and the
summer program begins next Monday. r
B. Tour of Members who had sat at one of the picnic tables behind the bleachers
Round Lk. of one of the softball fields during one of the games, walked down
Park to the beach area, noted the roping off of areas to control car and
pedestrian traffic, lights, tree planting and poncession stand which
houses new beach umbrellas at night. The new AUsand diving boards
have been installed, grass is beginning to grow on fields and the road
is due to be treated for dust.

The meeting was adjourned after sampling some of the ice cream confections
available at the concession stand.

M/Anderson, S/Erickson to recommend to the Council to consider
the Eden tonka Golf Course study at $2,000. Carried.
Jessen showed a model of the new park signs and village sign
to be used on roads and. park entrances.
