The meeting was called to order by the chairman. Minutes M/Lieb, S/Lindquist that the minutes of January 11 be accepted as published. Carried. II. Election of Off. This item of the agenda was deleted. III. A and B Two thousand copies of the Snowmobile Ordinance as approved by Snowmobile Ordnance the Council have been printed and will be mAiled to residents and Desig. Areas tomorrow with a cover letter (see File). The two snowmobile clubs are contributing about half the cost of printing and mailing ($120 total cost). Duck Lake (too developed an:: area) and Anderson Lakes (unique natural features) are closed to snowmobiling. Bloomington will consider banning the eastern Anderson Lake next year. C. Community-Sch. Jessen distributed copies of an initial draft based on present Use Policy conditions. He said suggestions for revision are welcome __ none were made during the meeting. D. t71 Wint_Spring Jessen distributed copies of the Registratio* Report (see File). Registration Snowmobile Safety class is completed. Tot-Learn to Skate has been cancelled, probably due to weather. Basketball and Volleyball leagues are going well, he said. Marvin Erickson and Robert Lieb agreed to continue as a committee to handle basketball protests, carrying over these duties from the softball season. E. 171 SRA Alloca. Jessen reported that E.P. will receive $400 for youth and teen programming which will go to the Teen Center and personnel to supervise. Drop-in nights will resume in March. Downstairs walls are being paneled. Tables donated by the Telephone Co. are being remade, painted and will divide the eating area from the rest of the downstairs. Marvin Erickson said he would attend the March 11 SRA Board meeting. Jessen said E.P. had several entrants in the SRA speed skating contest which he helped run. Two entrants placed. F. Communication Garens suggested a list of communities and agencies which could be network assigned to commission members for the purpose of keeping informed of their plans which might affect E.P. plans and bringing that in- formation to the other commission members. Garens said he had attended a subcommittee mtg. of the Riley-Purgatory Watershed Bd. and cited what he learned from representatives of Mtka., Hopkins and Chanhassen as one of the reasons for his oc mnunication plan, horse and snowmobile trails, flood plain park and greenway down oreekbeds -- all of which would involve more than one community. M/Lieb S/Garens that assignments be made under the headings suggested by' Garens at the next regularly scheduled meeting. Carried. - E.P. Park and Recreation Comm. Mtg. Feb. 8, 1971 Page $ IV. Discussions A. Hist. Soc. Lieb reported that the E.P. Historical Society has requested �! to become more a part of the village structure. In the planning of the land at Round Lake for park, school and possibly other municipal buildings including a fire hall and library, that a piece of land be set aside for the Society. The attitude of the commission during the discussion was that there should be some coordination between the village and the Society but that we are not in a position at the present time to take any action of their request for land. B. Summer Play-Jessen asked for a special meeting devoted entirely to next summerts ground Playground Program -- to discuss it thoroughly and make decisions. Changes Monday. March 1 was agreed upon for the date. Jessen said the meeting would be publicized and parents invited to participate in the discussion. Notes: It was suggested that our meetings should begin promptly at 7:30. Agreed. The Eden Prairie Classic Snowmobile Races will be held at Round Lake Park next weekend. Dennis Kalmon has sold his home in Eden Prairie and resigned from the Park and Recreation Commission. M/Garens S/Holasek that the meeting be adjourned. We hope that the time spent in this class will have been well spent by making you a safer, law-abiding, more courteous snowmobiler. I've included a copy of the new Eden Prairie snowmobile ordinance for you to have for your reference* I hope that you'll read it and adhere to the provisions of it to insure a long life for snowmobiling in Eden Prairie. If you have any questions about the ordinance, be sure and call me.
