EDEN PRAIRIE PARK AND RECREATION CCMtaSSION MEETING
April 17, 1967 8:00 P.M.

Present: Don Nygaard, Chairman, David Osterholt, Frances
Blacklock
Others: Bill Holte, Summer Recreation Director
The meeting was called to order by the chairman. The
minutes of the April 3 meeting were approved as printed.
Brauer and Assoc. Don Nygaard provided the background of how the park commission
happened to meet with Don Brauer by saying that when he
talked with Don Brauer regarding an evaluation of the Kutcher
property from a park standpoint, that Mr. Brauer had renewed
his invitation of over a year ago to visit their facilities
and discuss how Brauer and As could be of assistance to
-; the commission in planning Eden Prairie's park system.
Summer Recreation Don Nygaard reported that the Council at its last meeting
Budget had appropriated :j')2000 for the Summer Recreation Program to
be allocated as the Park Commission sees fit. When various
expenses are known, a budget for the Summer Recreation Pro-
gram will have-,to be suhnitted to the Council for approval.
Kutcher Property Don Nygaard reported on the work of the committe appointed
on Birch Island by the Council to investigate the Kutcher property for a
Lake possible purchase by the Village for a park.
M/Osterholt, S/Blacklock that the Park and Recreation
Commission request that the Council enter into a purchase
agreement with the Kutcher brothers according to their terms:
Sale price for 17 acres - - - - - $15,000.00
This sum to be spread over four yearly payments:
1967 - :;t4.2oo.00 - 28%
1963 - 4.200.00 - 28%
1969 — 4200.00 — 28;e
1970 - 24,00.00 - 16%
Interest on the unpaid balance after the first
payment: 6% per year.
Kutchers want permission to cut hay on the land.

Sewall Property The secretary was instructed to request that the Park Board
be placed on the School Board agenda as soon as possible to
discuss the Sewall property.
Summer Recreation Bill Holte made the following report on plans for the
Summer Recreation Program:
Staff: he has three assistants fairly definite for the s
summer. j
Period: 8 weeks of actual program, 7 hours per day, including
noon hour supervision.
Squijkment: He will need lumber, sports equipment and games.
I-Iiscellaneous: Prizes, film, extras for special events.
Insurance: Dave Osterholt will check liability insurance
of the village. Bill Holte will check bus availability
and bus insurance.
Schedule: Rec. Program will start June 19 and end Aug. 11
Suburban Rec. Assn. will furnish 6 puppet shows and
9 half-days of arts and crafts.
U. of M. Track Meet - no date yet
Twins games - possibly July 17 and Aug. 10
C Jaycees events - Track meet - June 26 with pop & ribbons.
Jr. Golf Meet - Sat. , July 15
Arboretum Field Trip - July 13
Golf lessons - Bill will clear with Cedar Hills
Como Park
Schooner Days - check with Ron Bohach, Lions Club Pres.
Printed Schedule: Ueadline for material - Flay 1 ; Printed by June 1
Quantity - 2500 printed both sides
Cost - approx. $150
Suggestions - Shade days of week when there is no
recreation scheduled. Include Softball League
(check with Rolf Haugen) . SRA would like credit
for partial sponsorship.
Junior Baseball schedule - Jaycee sponsorship
Council approval: Summer rec. program on the agenda April 25
