F t 1 R 1966 r MARCH 7 MINUTES 1 CITY OF EDEN PRAIRIE 7 � ' 4104 , EDEN PRAIRIE PARK AND RECREATION CGIKISSION MEETING March 7, 1966 8:00 p.m. Eden Prairie Village Hall Present: Don Nygaard., Howard Merriman, Ken Anderson, Frances Blacklock Guests: David Osterholt, Mayor, Dr. John Wright, Bill Holte The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Don Nygaard. .1 M/Merriman, S/Anderson that the minutes be approved as ' printed. Carried. (Li �0 Summer Recreation Don Nygaard reported that 2,000 schedules could be printed Printed Schedule on a 8z x 11 sheet of chromcote with a hole punched for hanging, for $133.80. (Bachman-Gile Letter Service price.) $50 of this price would be for any amount of typesetting ' to fit the card. Dave Osterholt volunteered that his firm would do the layout. cfi The Secretary was instructed to write the groups that would have schedules or information that should be included: Jr. Baseball, Red Cross swimming, Babe Ruth and American `- © Legion Baseball, riding stables, golf courses, beaches, Lions and Jaycees, Flying Cloud, picnic grounds and boat rentals. The information from the above sources would be included with the Villages Summer Recreation Schedule, all to be approved at the April Park and. Recreation Meeting, The printed schedule should be ready for distribution toward the latter part of May. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Council asking for an appropriation of approximately $133.80 to cover costs. Distribution will be through the school, churches and public groups and places. Subdivision Regu- There was a discussion of of Sect. 11. 11.1 and 11.2. lations The Secretary will obtain Park Ordinances from Minneapolis, Bloomington and Minnetonka to see what they have done and how they have worded their ordinances, and to see what they require of industries as well as housing developers. Horse Trails Dr. John Wright, Veterinarian, gave an interesting history of horses in America, from being beasts of burden, to work horses on farms, to the present era when there is renewed ° interest in horses for recreation. He presented the idea of having riding and/or driving trails in conjunction with park „) land, that this would give Eden Prairie a unigW feature not found elsewhere in the metropolitan area, which would attract many people who would like to make use of such facilities. FS,:-y' Park and Recreation Commission Meeting, March 7, 1966 Summer Recreation Sill Holte will arrange for an assistant and teen-age 'l Program supplemental help. He will line up special events and trips and general program to have it ready for discussion at the April meeting. A trip to the Airport, and Eden Prairie Invitational Track Meet, Twins Games, Teen Aqua Meet were suggested events, golf once a week at either Cedar Hills or Eden Prairie Golf, and a dramatics group, possibly coached by a woments organization.
