Junior Baseball Robert Garntner appeared before the Board to discuss Eden
Prairie Junior Baseball. Last year 200 boys 8-12 years of age
participated. Five teams of 8 and 9 year olds played at the ,
r
school; six teams of 10-12 year olds played at Miller, Kasid and
the Presbyterian Church fields. It is hoped both age groups can
play at the same time this summer at one location, namely Flying
Cloud Airport area along County Road ft, which is leased to the
Village. This will reduce conflicts aid evenings involved for
families who have boys playing on more than one team. Babe Ruth
League teams might wish to play here, too.
Mr. Garntner raised questions regardtg the lease, the dimensions
of the land, leveling at least two low spots, watering and mowing.
Mr. Picha reported that the land was leveled to some extent and
O seeded this past summer and that the grass has a good start.
The Board will request copies of the lease with a plat of the land
In preparation for finalizing plans for its use to propose to the
Council.
L
Mr. Garntner expects there will be room for 10-12 fields and hopes
to be abjR to complete at least four good fields by next summer,
sodding infields and putting up backstops and Pitchers* mounds.
They would also like to have an equipment shed. He was given
suggestions for help in laying out the fields, lawn care, watering
(there is no well) and mowing.
h- Mr. Garntner hopes to got his committees and ,job assignments --

COMMENTS & EVALUATIONS OF njE SUZOER PROGRAM
r
This past summer some new ideas were tried in several different areas with
varying degrees of success. Some activities we had talked about did not get past
the talking stage for one reason or another.
Specific items that I feil should be discussed with the Park Board are as follows-.
1. Two Student helpers — this summer we hired 2 9th grade students and paid them
C_
$75 each for the summers.
2. Field Trips;
Twin Baseball game Como Park
Teenage Aqua Show
3. Sterling Field
4. Swimming — this came up a few weeks after we started — we did not advertise
this. What does the Park Board think of this?
5. Dramatics — flopped this year, still worth trying.
6. Trampoline — needs about 8100. worlth of repair for new springs — should we
pay part of the cost?
7. Crafts — woodehips
S. Publicity — still a problem. How about planning a brochure with all of the
summer activities plus different recreational facilities in E.P.
(golf courses, horseback riding, swimming etc.) I have several
examples from communities around us.
