HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks and Recreation - 05/03/1965 1965 MAY 3 MINUTES CITY OF EDEN PRAIRIE EDEN PRAIRIE PARK AND RECREATION MEETING May 3, 1965, 8:00 p.m. i Eden Prairie Village Hall Present: Don Nygaard, Russell Marsh, Howard Merriman, Frances Blacklock Kenneth Anderson (first meeting as council representative) Guests: Bill Holte, Summer Recreation Director Linda Brekke, Asst. Summer Rec. Dir. P-T/Marsh S/Blacklock that the minutes of the last meeting stand ' approved as printed. Carried. Summer Rec. Bill Holte and Lj. da Brekke made the following report of their Plans proposed plans for the coming summer recreation program: Dates: June 21 to August 13, Monday through Friday Eight week period Hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Supervised lunch hour - Noon to 1:00 p.m. Place: Centered at the Eden Prairie Grade School (west wing), the wooded area to the west C the gradeschool playgound and equipment in back of the school and the high school track and equipment EXCEPT ON THURSDAY: Thursday Program (No program at the school) Golf at Cedar Hills in the morning Playground program at Sterling Field Park, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Program: The program will continue all of the features from last year that proved successful, such as: Gymnastics Games Birthday Party Suburban Recreation crafts Watermelon picnic Suburban Recreation Puppet Show New features: Track and Fiel__ __ d__Day�, with invitations to two or three communities too paartic p3 —Build up to it for 2 or 3 weeks in advance. Events: Running, ,jumping, throwing etc. Overnight hike for girls with Linda Four Field trips - providIng it is possible to insure a school bus Arboretum, Baseball games at Met Stadium etc. i Park and Recreation Meeting, May 3, 1965 Page 2 CI New Features contd. Dramatic presentation - a play or musical play Tennis - providing the school will bring the court back into shape. Gymnastics event - demonstrations of the skills learned Special Days with guest experts: (Tentative depending on scheduling) Football tips leading up to Kick, Punt and Pass contest by Billy Bye, and possibly the new Viking Film Talk on Olympics by Paul Giel Co(*-Cola sports flilm Schooner Day Participation Races - representing Summer Rec. Program Horseshoe contest - starting publicity for Horseshoe Tournament Adult Program C_ Three Events: Horseshoe Tournament with playoffs from neigh- borhoods Golf Tournament Outdoor Square Dance Night Personnel: Bill Holte, Director (3800 last year) $ 800.00 Linda Brekke, Asst. Dir, Suburban Rec. Assn. pays $475. Village of E.P., additional salary 100.00 n n it ►t , noon hour supervision 100.00 Student assistants (3) Maximum total 150.00 Other Costs: Bus Insurance (Subject to change)- approx. 125.00 Equipment in addition to the school's 50.00 ?1325.00 �.
