HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 265 - Fixing the Date for Regular City Election, Extending the Term of Council Members and Providing for the Year When Certain Councilmen are to be Elected - 06/25/1974 CITY OF EDEN PRAIRIE HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA ORDINANCE NO. 265 AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE DATE OF THE REGULAR CITY ELECTION, EXTENDING THE TERM OF COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR ONE YEAR WHERE NECESSARY, AND PROVIDING FOR THE YEAR WHEN CERTAIN COUNCIL- MEN ARE TO BE ELECTED. The Council of the City of Eden Prairie does ordain as follows : Section 1 . Date of Election. The regular city elections shall be held biennially on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November and every even-numbered year beginning with the 1974 election. Section 2. Extension of Terms of Council Members. The terms of the Mayor and Councilman, whose current term will expire on the 31st day of December, 1975, are extended to the first business day of January, 1977. Those offices shall be filled at the 1976 city election. rr Section 3. Terms and Transition. Two (2) Councilmen shall be elected for L four (4) year terms at each biennial city election commencing in 1974. The Mayor shall be elected for a two (2) year term at each such election. First read at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Eden Prairie, this 25th day of June, 1974, and finally read, adopted and ordered published at a regular meeting of the Council of said City on the 9th day of July, 1974. RITCHAY, being duly sworn, on oath says he is and during all times here stated has been the vice president and printer of the newspaper known as The Eden Prairie Sun and has full knowledge of the facts herein stated as follows: (1) Said newspaper is printed in the English language in newspaper format and in column and sheet form equivalent in printed space to at least 900 square inches. (2) Said newspaper is a weekly and is distributed at least , c once each week. (3) Said newspaper has 50% of its news columns devoted to news of local interest to the community which it purports to serve and does not wholly duplicate any other publication and is not made up entirely of patents, plate matter ana advertisements. (4) Said newspaper is circulated in and near the municipality which it purports to serve, has at least 500 copies regularly delivered to paying subscribers, has an average of at least 757" of its total circulation currently paid or no more than three months in arrears and has entry as second- i class matter in its local post-office. (5) Said newspaper purports to serve the Village of Eden Prairie in Hennepin County and it has its known office of issue in the City of } 131oamingtcn in Hennepin County, established and open during its regular business hours for rite gathering of news, sale of advertisements and sale of subscription and maintained by the managing officer or persons in its; employ and subject to his direction and control during nil such regular business hours and devoted exclusively during such business hours to the business of the newsppaer and business related thereto. (6) Said newspaper files a copy of each issue immediately with the State Historial Society. (7) Said newspaper has complied k .With all the foregoing conditions for at )east two years preceding the day or dates of publication 'mentioned below.
