HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 55 - Regulating the Discharge of Firearms - 02/24/1965 a r, ro r' Y VILLAGE OF EDE N PRA I R I S HENNEP 1 N COUNTY, M1 NNESOTA ORDINANCE NUMBER 55 AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE DISCHARGE OF FIREARMS WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE VILLAGE OF EDEN PR.A I R 1 E, HENNEP 1 N COUNTY, M I NNESOTA , AND FOR THE PROMOTION OF SAFETY AND GENERAL WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE. a The Village Council of the Village of Eden Prairie does ordain: 4 Section 1 . Except as hereinafter provided, it shall be unlawful to fire of f or discharge any gun, pistol , or other f i rearm or weapon using bu l lets or /► o' o,-KIkvr projectiles larger than within the Village of Eden Prairie, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Section 2. Persons desiring to fire off or discharge any gun, pistol , or other firearm or weapon using bullets or projectiles larger than buckshot within the Village of Eden Prairie shall first secure a permit to do so from the Village Council . Section 3. Application for such permits shall be in writing addressed to the Council , and shall state the reason for requesting such permit, the period for which such permit is desired, the type of gun, rifle, pistol , air rifle or B-B gun to be fired, and such other information as may be deemed necessary by the Council to pass upon such application. Such permit shall be in writing and shall be issued by and at the discretion of the Council , and permit shall be usable only by the person to whom issued. Section 4# Subdivision I . No person under the age of sixteen ( 16) shall w fire off or discharge any gun, pistol , or other firearm or weapon within the Village of Eden Prairie. Subdivision 2. It shall be in violation of this ordinance for a parent or guardian of any person under the age of sixteen ( 16) to knowingly permit any such person to discharge any weapon described in Section 4, '= p. Subdivision I , within the Village of Eden Prairie. z Section 5. Shooting by an organized Gun Club is prohibited within the y Village; provided, however, the Council may, upon application, issue a permit to an organized Gun Club upon a showing that such shooting by a Gun Club would 4 not be detrimental to the use and enjoyment of the adjoining property. Section 6. Nothing herein shall be construed to prohibit any firing of a gun, pistol or other weapon when in lawful defense of person, property, or family, or in the necessary defense or enforcement of laws. t Section 7, Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not more than $ 100.00, or by imprisonment in the Hennepin County Jail for not more than ninety (90) days.
