HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 94-21 - Adopting the Proposed Future Use of the Glen Lake Hennepin County Property - 02/01/1994 CITY OF EDEN PRAIRIE HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO. 94 - 21 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE PROPOSED FUTURE USE OF THE GLEN LAKE HENNEPIN COUNTY PROPERTY WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Eden Prairie adopted a resolution requesting that the Hennepin County Board appoint a Task Force to make recommendations to the County Budgeting Task Force and County Board regarding the long-term utilization of the County Glen Lake property; and WHEREAS, in August, 1991, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution establishing the Glen Lake Task Force and appointed the following members: two County Commissioners, elected officials from the cities of Eden Prairie and Minnetonka, appropriate Hennepin County staff members, and two members of the Gatewood-Glen Lake Homeowners Association; and WHEREAS, the Task Force established two sub-committees to examine the reuse of the buildings and grounds of the Oak Terrace Nursing Home and to review the possibility for a golf course; and WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Home School Land Use Master Plan was completed in Spring, 1993, and concluded that some expansion of the Home School building and programs would be needed in the future and that a buffer should be established around the Home School portion of the property; and WHEREAS, on July 2, 1993, the Task Force concluded that a golf course should be considered for a portion of the Glen Lake property and directed staff to explore alternative golf course concepts; and WHEREAS, on December 20, 1993, the Glen Lake Task Force discussed various golf course options and supported the idea of a golf course on all or part of the Glen Lake property not utilized by the Hennepin County Home School which respected the rights of the Home School clients; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, that • the City Council endorses the Glen Lake Task Force recommendation that the concept of a public golf course and other complementary uses such as a driving range are appropriate and compatible uses around and adjacent to the Hennepin County Home School on the Glen Lake property; and • the Eden Prairie City Council further recomends that Hennepin County expand the scope of its planning for the site to include year-round recreation, complementary uses, and access to Camp Edenwood, the City's Birch Island Park, and the County open space land south and east of Camp Edenwood; and the City Council is confident these uses will provide recreational benefit to County residents; and • if the concepts of a golf course and expanded recreational opportunities as recommended above are studied further, the City Council requests that additional information including design, financial aspects, and administration be prepared for review by the Task Force, cities of Eden Prairie and Minnetonka, Hennepin County Budgeting Task Force, and the Hennepin County Board.
