HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 93-32 - Supporting Light Rail Transit/Interim Regional Recreation Trail Corridor - 02/16/1993 CITY OF EDEN PRAIRIE HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO. 9 3 - 3 2 RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT/INTERIM REGIONAL RECREATION TRAIL CORRIDOR WHEREAS, the Suburban Hennepin Regional Park District (Hennepin Parks) has entered into a Permit Agreement with the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority(HCRRA)for the interim use and management of light rail transit corridors located between the Cities of Hopkins and Chanhassen for regional recreational trail purpose, and WHEREAS, this trail corridor transverses the City of Eden Prairie and will benefit the citizens by creating a non-motorized, off-road transportation link and recreational trail through the western suburbs which is proposed to eventually connect to the City of Minneapolis as well as other Regional Trail Corridors in the Metropolitan Area, and WHEREAS, the City recognizes the advantages to the public in having the trail consistently developed,signed and managed by one regional recreation agency with the cooperation of and in coordination with local municipalities, and WHEREAS, Hennepin Parks has in the operation of its regional parks,park reserves and the North Hennepin Regional Trail Corridor demonstrated its knowledge and experience in designing,administering, and maintaining high quality and publicly responsive facilities in a manner that is supportive of natural resources preservation and public safety, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Eden Prairie supports Hennepin Parks development and cooperative management of the Light Rail Transit/Interim Regional Recreational Trail Corridors and will assist and coordinate its efforts with other communities along the Interim Trail to provide the best possible experience for the citizens of Eden Prairie, and The City of Eden Prairie supports Hennepin Parks efforts to secure federal, state and regional funding to complete the development of and initiate the operation of these corridors in a timely manner, and Further, that the City supports the retention of recreational trail use of the corridors as a joint use with the proposed future light rail transit service.
