HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 91-263 - Minnesota River - 12/03/1991 CITY OF EDEN PRAIRIE HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO. 91-263 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING EFFORTS TO REDUCE POLLUTION OF THE MINNESOTA RIVER WHEREAS, the City of Eden Prairie believes the Minnesota River to be a unique natural resource; and WHEREAS, the City's Comprehensive Guide Plan designates the Minnesota River as Public Open Space; and WHEREAS, the City currently follows practices for erosion control and water quality of the Purgatory-Riley Creek Watershed Districts; and • WHEREAS, 30% of the City is designated as Public Open Space; and WHEREAS, the City has adopted BWSR guidelines for erosion control, water quality, and NURP ponds to be incorporated into new development projects; and WHEREAS, the City has adopted environmental regulations which help m;nim;xe erosion and pollutants including shoreland ordinance, flood plain ordinance, slope ground ordinance, and tree preservation ordinance; and WHEREAS, the City has agreed to certain guidelines of the Metropolitan Council regarding water quality for new projects; and WHEREAS, the City has reclaimed large areas of agricultural land for wetlands including the Purgatory Creek flood plain and Neill Lake; and WHEREAS, the City believes that not only metropolitan communities, but also out-state areas need to accept responsibility for reducing pollution; and WHEREAS, the City staff is a member of the Lower Minnesota River technical committee; and • WHEREAS, the City is preparing an overall water runoff and water quality plan. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDEN PRAIRM MIlVNFSOTA that the City support efforts to reduce pollution of the Minnesota River.
