HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 11/07/1974 - Other MINUTES CITY COUNCIL MEETING AS THE CA11VASSING BOARD Eden Prairie High School Board Room THURSDAY, Nov. 7, 1974 at 7 :15p.m. s The meeting was called to order by Mayor Osterholt at 7:25 p.m. All members of the City Council were present. Flavor Osterholt requested Finance Director/City Clerk, John Frane to report on the local election y held Tuesday, Novernber 5. vir Frane reported that there is an apparent discrezpancy of approximately 314 votes in the total votes casted-. Since the ballots were sealed the reason for the discrepancy could not be determined. Mayor Osterholt asked the City Attorney how the discrepancy could be corrected. Hr. Perbix reported if all' the candidates consent in writing that the City Council , acting as the Canvassing Board, could count the votes the discrepancy could probably be determined within a few days. If all of the candidates do not so consent then -one or more of the candidates would have to file with the District -Court a petition for a tally of District I votes. Mrs. Neyers , a candidate for re-election in the local election, asked if she should be excused from the Canvassing Board. City Attorney stated no. A motion by Pauly, seconded by i-1cCulloch to solicit permission from the candidates to consent in writing at the City Council , acting as the Can- vassing Board, could count the votes to ascertain the cause of discrepancy of total votes cast in District I and to adjourn the Canvassing Board meeting to 8:00 A.M. Saturday, November 9 at the City Council Chambers was approved unanimously. !McCulloch moved, Penzel seconded a motion authorizing the Mayor to nominate a committee to investigate other aspects of the election that were brought to the Mayor's attention. These concerns included insufficent numbers of ballot boxes at the polls, insufficent number of voting booths, not enough election judges and counters and the length of time that was taken in order to vote. notion was adopted unanimously. Plotion by McCulloch, seconded by Penzel to adjourn. The meeting of the City Council serving as the Canvassing Board was adjourned at 3:05 p.n. Respectfully submitted, Robert P.
