Eden Prairie High School Board Rom Members present were: Mayor Osterholt, Councilmen, Haugen, Nesbitt, Pedpath and Shultz. Also present were: Planner Don rawer and George Hite, Village Manager. T. H. 41, 169, 212 Corridor Study. Manager Hite briefly reviewed the status of major highway Planning in the Southwest sector of the Metropolitan area and noted that decisions made relative to the locations of highways such as 169, 212, 5, 18 and 62 would have considerable impact on the future of the Village of Eden Prairie. He asked Mr. Don Brauer, Village Planner, to present his review, report and I&ticn on the matter. Mr. Brauer reviewed the various corridor Proposals noting the relative advantages and disadvantages of each with particular reference to interchange possibilities and the frequerray of freeway facilities within the oenmu ni.ty. He recommended that the Council support the system labeled "Corridor System An as set forth in the April 1969 interiun report of Howard, Needles, Tasnen and Bergendoff. Mr. Hite supported the recaamendatim. She Council discussed the alternatives at same length with considerable attention to the impact of the various alternatives on the Village's Compreh.nsiv+e Plan and the arssucmptions and evaluations upon which the planrer's ( lations were based. Mayor Osterholt said that the conm u dties to the a west of Eden Prairie had all unanimously endorsed "Corridor System CO and the Village should take those positions into account in determining its own position. He said that he felt the Village's Comprehensive Plan would be least disrupted by locating the 169-212 facility in Corridor C and he was not certain that the reservations on interchange spacing or location within Corridor C as noted by the planner could be totally substantiated. Mr. Hite ocmnennted that the principle problems associated with Corridors System C seem to be associated with the likelihood that T.H. #5 would also be developed to a freeway facility and that under System C it would be difficult if not impossible to develop access from the freeway systems on and off the 169-494 interchange area distributor road system. He suggested that if the Ccx=il were to endorse System C that it should do so with the stipulation that Highway 5 not be developed as a major freeway or expressway and that the Village be assured of interchange access on the west side of the 494-169 interchange area distributor. Mr. Nesbitt moved that the Eden Prairie Village Council endorse Corridor System, C as set forth in the Howard Need)es report with the st{pillatison that the Highway Department assure the Village that Highway 5 would not also be developed to freeway or expresswery standards and that the Vill be assured of access between 169-212 and the 494 clover leaf interchange distributor orad system. Mr. Haugen, seconded the motion. On roll call, Counc 1men Nesbitt, Haugen, Redpat.h and Mayor Osterholt voted aye. Councilman Shultz abstained. Motion carried.
