V. NEW BUSINESS
A. UPDATE ON UPCOMING PROJECTS AT CAMP EDEN WOOD
Novak-Krebs stated she had been conversing with John LeBlanc on upcoming
projects at Camp Eden Wood. These included replacing the roof on the dormitory
(as is—there would be no modifications), and improving a portion of the historic
road (as is—without pavement) to avoid the regular erosion, and gravel
replacement, that occurred with every rain. (Thorp stated he would be in favor of
blacktop but there might be an objection from SHPO.) The improvements
included creating a low berm to contain and slow the rainwater overflow, and a
ditch to aid evacuating the water. Novak-Krebs added SHPO had approved these

plans. MacDonald & Mack was working on a cost estimate to the improvements
to Birch Hall. This included producing construction documents required for a
grant to pay for their preparation. Thorp added there were planned foundation
improvements.
[Maxwell arrived at 7:08 p.m.]
B. REPORT ON PICNIC AT THE PARK EVENTS
Thorp stated the first event had been well attended, but the second event had been
canceled due to weather. The first event was a success, with families picnicking
on blankets, with pizza provided, the historic tools display, and the house tours,
which were well received. Fisher estimated 150 people attended.
Thorp stated the Historical Society would do this again next year, although the
Society agreed two events were ambitious; the same people attending the same
events was probably redundant. Novak-Krebs replied this was good information
to take back to the Parks and Recreation Department.
VI. OLD BUSINESS
TOUR OF 17155 TERRY PINE DRIVE RESCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 16,
2024
Novak-Krebs stated the tour would begin at 6:00 p.m., and then commission members
would return to the Heritage Rooms for the HPC meeting, since the student
representatives would attend that night for the first time. Fisher asked for and received
confirmation there would be sufficient parking at the house site.
DISCUSS NEXT STEPS FOR RFP FOR THE BOOK ON EDEN PRAIRIE’S
NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORY
Thorp stated he, Fisher and Kathie Case met with Paul Maravelas, who asked for a copy
of the RFP. Novak-Krebs stated she had seen the initial proposal from DeCarlo, who was
interested then, Fisher would send him a clean copy of the RFP. Novak-Krebs stated
John Gertz suggested adding “review the current archeological records for Eden Prairie”
to the RFP, and the commission members agreed. Thorp stated some of these
files/records were at SHPO, and Novak-Krebs confirmed the City had some as well.
Novak-Krebs stated she would make a clean copy and email that version to the
commission members.
Thorp stated this RFP did not need to be made public. Novak-Krebs confirmed there was
no need to send it to any particular list or number of consultants. Maxwell objected the
commission should solicit bids from several entities to gather input from multiple parties.
Discussion followed on eligible candidates: Peter DeCarlo, Paul Maravelas, and a St.

Novak-Krebs offered to confirm the City would pick up the brush left from the clean-up;
she would ask the City Manager. Novak-Krebs would also ask Mike Rogers to come out
to the site.

Thorp stated for Harvest to Halloween the Dorenkemper House would be open for tours,
though he would close the upstairs and better control the visitors for this event, due to
some vandalism at previous events.
There was the possibility of holding a Murder Mystery event on October 18, 19, and 25
(evening) by the Eden Prairie Players at the Cummins Phipps Grill House. There would
be a box lunch provided. Mary Myers might know how residents could sign up once this
