three nominations. Andrew noted the difference between the nominations,

VI. OLD BUSINESS
A. UPDATE ON STUDENT LED VIDEOS OF HISTORIC PROPERTIES
(ALLEN)
Allen stated there were scheduling challenges but she had completed a lot of
research on her own. Length and content were under discussion. Allen stated she
would email Schumacher later with some questions. Her video on Camp
Edenwood was projected to be between three and four minutes.
Andrew asked if he had to adopt a serious tone or if some humor was allowed.
Schumacher replied a light but entertaining tone was best.
B. DISCUSS PRESENTATION BY PETER DECARLO
Schumacher stated the conversation had been robust and asked for feedback and
next steps. Novak-Krebs solicited answers from the commission. Thorp stated the
presentation and video was well done and he wanted to see something a bit more
permanent, such as a book. Fisher stated Kathie Case had also suggested this.
Thorp added Paul Maravelias could collaborate on a book. Minnesota Historical
Society grants could be pursued for this. Thorp added Maravelias had already
done much of the research. Fisher agreed, saying his chapter on the uplands had
been excellent.
Fisher stated the commission members had done good work developing the
vision. He had spoken with curator Javier Avalos at the Cultural Center and asked
for tribal collaboration. Avalos had talked at length about a collaboration and said
he would check into this idea. Avalos always had new ideas. Maxwell asked if a
Mdewakanton Sioux storyteller would be interested in collaborating on a book.
Fisher suggested Avalos could provide names. Discussion followed on possible
collaborators for a book. Fisher suggested the commission members continue the
discussion via the subcommittee.
Maxwell suggested the subcommittee come up with a step-by-step plan.
Discussion followed on the scope of the project. Schumacher also asked for an
overarching plan to target multiple audiences. Thorp suggested the commission
spend the next year assembling the materials the HPC and the Eden Prairie

Historical Society have and put it in one place. Schumacher stated he and Fisher
could brainstorm before the next meeting about what the overarching strategy
was, what the levels of presentation should be, and each component of that.
Andrew stated he might have an inroad to the schools for curriculum content, as
his final project for a class was to expose and address a systemic inequity. He
could work with Mr. Sibley to pressure the school into talking about including
this content in a class.
Novak-Krebs stated this could fall under a CLG grant application and also a
Legacy grant application ($10,000.00 or less). The Legacy grant had deadlines in
January, April, July and October. Thorp stated he would bring it up at the
Historical Society meeting the next day (Tuesday). Fisher stated Case’s input was
valuable. Schumacher stated he and Fisher would talk, put together a structure,
and have a deeper conversation at the next commission meeting.
B. UPDATE ON HERITAGE PLAQUE PROGRAM (NOVAK-KREBS)
Novak-Krebs stated the website was updated with the announcement that this was
being reestablished. Communications also put together a handout, which she
displayed. It had a QR code that led them to sign up on the website. Rollout was
close and could be announced on social media.
