B. UPDATE ON VISIT WITH SCOTT COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
STUDENT (FISHER AND BOWES)
Fisher stated he and Bowes visited the Scott County Historical Society building,
which was impressive. The Historical Society had a new director, whom they met
with for an hour, and their interest was to follow their example in working with
local tribes to tell the story of the river. He encouraged the other commission
members to visit the center. They also visited the museum and the trading post.
Fisher displayed the location of the Shakopee tribe along the river. Shakopee had
been working for three years to create a Riverfront Cultural Trail with
interpretive signage along the river to highlight early history, including
indigenous history. The Shakopee Historical Society was in Phase II of the
project, had retained $250,000.00 in funding, and was in the process of acquiring
a million dollars. It would be implemented in the next few years. The director
would not share the book but allowed Fisher to photograph the map. Angie Craig
from the District could access funding through state and federal sources. The
project had tribal support.
Fisher added he was impressed by their project and wanted to get suggestions for
how to tell the story of the indigenous inhabitant in a respectful manner, and work
on a possible collaboration with the Society. He suggested this as a model for
Eden Prairie’s HPC. Hennepin County Historical Society and Three Rivers were
potential partners.
Fisher offered to have Bowes give his update at the next meeting.
C. DISCUSS ALTERNATE MEETING DATE IN JUNE (NOVAK-KREBS)
June 19 was now a holiday (Juneteenth). The alternate date chosen was June 26.
D. CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY IN 2024
(THORP)
Thorp stated the school was coming up on its 100 year anniversary. The event
was in the planning process by the Eden Prairie Historical Society, which would
offer tours. Novak-Krebs said it was possible to have a commission meeting there
if we coordinate it with Kathie Case..
Novak-Krebs announced the Communications Department had completed the
Otherday write-up for Eden Prairie Woman’s History Month feature. The feature
was shared on social media.

and he would be repainting the following Wednesday afternoon.
The Cummins Phipps Grill House held an estate sale in January.
The Historical Society would hold the annual picnic on June 15, and the HPC
commission members were invited. The Annual Meeting is Thursday, April 20. One of
the daughters from the Daluge family will tell the story about how her mom, as a
teenager, lived in Germany and helped Jews during WWII.
Thorp stated he had spoken with John LeBlanc of the True Friends regarding a tour of
the Glen Lake Children’s Camp in June. He and Novak-Krebs were meeting with Suhni
Schussler regarding the addition of an accessory building at the Green Acres barn
property. This was an effort to provide a changing house for brides. Four small sheds in
